Xinhua, February 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher early Thursday supported by the yen's depreciation against the U.S. dollar.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 301.16 points, or 1.71 percent, from Tuesday to 17,953.84.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 22.63 points, or 1.59 percent, to 1, 450.35. Financial markets in Japan were closed Wednesday for a national holiday.
