Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Wednesday that Kiev would seek a "ceasefire without any conditions" during the upcoming talks in Minsk over the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

"We need an unconditional ceasefire without any prerequisites," Poroshenko told a government meeting ahead of the talks, to be attended by Russian, French and German leaders later in the day. (Ukraine-Minsk Summit)

NAIROBI -- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday called on South Sudan leaders to honour agreements they have signed in order to find a lasting political solution to the current crisis in the country.

Kenyatta, who met six regional governors from South Sudan in Nairobi, said failure in the implementation of South Sudan peace process is not an option.

"It is disheartening to see that the situation in South Sudan is not getting any better. It is time the conflict was brought to a conclusive end," said Kenyatta in a statement issued in Nairobi after the meeting. (Kenya-South Sudan-Peace Process)

BAGHDAD -- A total of nine people were killed and 39 others wounded in bomb attacks and daily violence across Iraq on Wednesday, security sources said.

The deadliest attack occurred in the capital Baghdad in the morning, when six Katyusha rockets struck the Shiite neighborhood of Shula in the northern part of the city, leaving six people killed and 18 wounded, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. (Iraq-Bomb Attacks)

PYONGYANG -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday warned South Korea not to "toe U.S. policy," urging Seoul to work with Pyongyang for independent reunification.

The South Korean authorities "will not be able to escape the most miserable end if they persistently join the U.S. moves for a war of aggression aimed to disturb peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula," the official KCNA news agency quoted a spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea as saying.
