FM says "necessary" for China, US to cooperate further to pursue fugitives

Xinhua, February 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Chinese spokeswoman said Wednesday that it was "necessary" for China and the United States to cooperate on the pursuit of overseas fugitives.

"It is necessary to discuss new measures on the basis of current cooperation on fugitives," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a daily news briefing in response to a question on a possible extradition treaty between China and the United States.

Hua said China and the United States worked well within APEC, referring the United States' support for the Beijing Declaration on Fighting Corruption and the APEC Network of Anti-Corruption and Law Enforcement Agencies (ACT-NET).

She said Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama agreed on an anti-corruption strategy during the APEC meetings in Beijing last year.

Hua also confirmed that Chinese and U.S. working groups attended an APEC meeting on anti-corruption in the Philippines last month and that they will meet again in August. Endi
