Visiting Malian Prime Minister Modibo Keita held talks with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika regarding bilateral cooperation and the inter-Malian peace dialogue, as well as the security situation in the Sahel region.

The Malian prime minister told reporters he handed over to President Bouteflika a written message from the President of Mali Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

"The message concerns cooperation between Mali and Algeria and the inclusive inter-Malian talks with a view to achieve a peace agreement," he said.

In this regard, the Malian prime minister said Algeria has been chosen as leading mediator from the international mediation team in the inter-Malian talks, adding that "the peace process is progressing in the right direction."

"A new round of talks, which begin Tuesday, aim to discuss in depth the peace process aiming to reach a final agreement," he said, adding that "we are running out of time, and the longer we drag on, the more complicated the northern Mali situation becomes."

Keita's visit to Algeria is part of the Algerian-Malian consultation and political dialogue. Endit
