Algeria on Tuesday announced that it is set to install a national monitoring board to fight against religious extremism.
Mohamed Aissa, Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs, told reporters that the government has finally given its approval for the creation of this board, noting that this project is to be put into effect as soon as possible.
This new board will bring together specialists and academics from all sectors to examine and analyze the issues linked to religious extremism, and then recommend adequate solutions, the minister said.
"Some people convey ideas advocating religious extremism by using educational, cultural and youth arenas," he said, adding that the creation of this observatory aims at protecting its national religious references based on the Maliki school of religious law.
Religious extremism has been emerging in the Muslim world, as some Islamist hardliner groups call for using violence to reach their goals.
Extremism is usually linked to terrorism, as some terror groups target youngsters to manipulate and recruit them, either inside or outside Algeria. Endit
