1st LD Writethru: 5 killed as gunmen storm police station in N. Afghanistan

At least five Taliban militants were killed while two policemen sustained injuries Tuesday after gunmen stormed a police station in Kunduz provincial capital the Kunduz city 250 km north of Kabul, a security source said. "One terrorist set off his explosive-laden vehicle near the front gate of the police station compound, leaving himself dead on the spot and four more suicide bombers were shot dead by police after they attempted to enter the police station building following the blast," the security source told Xinhua on anonymous basis.

Meantime, two police cops were injured as a result of the attack which took place at around 10:30 a.m. local time, the provincial police spokesman Sayyed Sarwar Hussaine told Xinhua.

Hussaine also added that the units of Special Police Force have cordoned off the area and are trying to clean up the police compound, saying complete details will be made public after conclusion of the cleanup operations. Endi
