(Recast) Zambia to host talks on UN security reforms

Zambia has been chosen to host a meeting of 10 African leaders that will discuss reforms of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, state broadcaster reported on Monday.

The 10 African leaders have been chosen to spearhead reforms of the UN Security by the African Union (AU), foreign affairs minister Harry Kalaba told the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) .

According to him, the reforms were expected to culminate in a permanent seat for Africa in the UN Security Council which has powers to veto decisions passed by the UN Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Zambian minister is praying that the postponement of elections in Nigeria will result in that country holding peaceful polls.

Nigeria's election commission has postponed the Feb. 14 presidential election by six weeks because troops needed to protect polling stations were being deployed to fight Boko Haram.

Former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari from the All Progressives Congress (APC) is challenging incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan of the governing People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming election. Endi
