89 militants killed in Afghanistan within week: official

Xinhua, February 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Afghan security forces have killed nearly 90 insurgents during series of crackdowns across the country over the past week, Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi said on Sunday.

"A total of 89 terrorists have been killed and 90 others captured during military operations over the past one week," Sediqi told reporters at a press briefing.

The security forces including police have conducted 79 joint operations over the past week during which they also discovered and defused 154 pieces of anti-personnel and anti-vehicle mines during the operations, the official further said.

He also added that the security personnel have also seized 65 pieces of assault rifles from the militants during the crackdowns.

All the security organs including police, army and national directorate for security are capable enough to overcome security challenges and ensure law and order elsewhere in the country, Sediqi stressed. Endi
