Syria accuses Jordan, other countries of fueling internal insurgency

Xinhua, February 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Syria accused Jordan and other Arab and foreign countries of backing insurgency on its soil, local al-Watan newspaper reported on Sunday.

"Syrian knows about joint intelligence operation rooms in Jordan to supervise the training of the radical militants waging attacks in the Syrian territories," Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad was quoted as saying.

He claimed that the intelligence agencies of Israel, the United States, Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are involved in these operations.

Mekdad said his country "has practiced the highest levels of self-restraint" in dealing with Jordan's role in "backing rebellion in Syria."

Meanwhile, Mekdad said the heinous execution of Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kassasbeh by the Islamic State (IS) terrorists should propel all Arab countries to coordinate with Syria regarding the fight against terrorism.

However, Jordan has repeatedly denied any role in supporting insurgency in Syria, and claimed that its recent move to step up airstrikes in the war-torn nation were part of its revenge actions against the IS targets there for the pilot's death. Endit
