At least 6 killed as migrant boat capsizes off Turkey coast

Xinhua, February 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least six people were killed on Saturday when a boat with 12 illegal migrants sank off western Turkey, private Dogan news agency reported.

The boat, heading to the nearby Greek island Kos, capsized in the Aegean Sea near western Turkey's Mugla province, said the report, adding that six bodies were recovered in the sea.

The rescue team, with one helicopter, one plane and four coast guard boats, saved one illegal migrant, but five migrants are still missing, said the report.

Turkey is geographically positioned between Asia and Europe, making it a major transit point for Middle Eastern and Asian migrants and refugees fleeing from poverty or conflict in their home countries. Endit
