Merkel says military means cannot solve conflicts in Ukraine

Xinhua, February 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Saturday that military means cannot solve conflicts in Ukraine.

Merkel made the remarks at the ongoing 51st Munich Security Conference here.

"I am firmly convinced that this conflict cannot be solved by military means. This is why we have decided to concentrate on a diplomatic solution to this crisis," she said.

She noted that it was a trans-Atlantic approach to impose economic sanctions on Russia. "But the progress that Ukraine needs cannot be achieved by more weapons," Merkel said, adding that there are already a lot of weapons there.

So far they have not solved the conflicts, she said, and "we need to concentrate on other options." Endi
