The U.S. economy added more jobs than expected in January and the unemployment rate was little changed at 5.7 percent, indicating that the job market is in the pipeline of steady recovery, the Department of Labor said Friday.

Some 257,000 non-farm jobs were created in January. Employment gains in November and December were 147,000 higher than previously reported.

The labor force participation rate rose 0.2 percentage points to 62.9 percent. The number of long-term unemployed, or those jobless for 27 weeks or more, was unchanged at 2.8 million. Endi
