APEC Senior Officials' Meeting opens in Philippines

Xinhua, February 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

The two-day formal Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) opened on Friday in northern Philippine province of Pampanga to discuss policy direction for this year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary Laura del Rosario, APEC 2015 SOM chair, said the policy direction should both reflect the outcomes of APEC 2014 in China, and build on the Philippines' APEC 2015 theme of "Building Inclusive Economies, Building a Better World."

She said that from Jan. 26, the various technical working groups and committees that report to the APEC Senior Officials have met to discuss initiatives, policies and capacity-building programs that advance APEC's goals of trade liberalization, business facilitation and economic cooperation.

"Today, as senior officials, we shall take note of all the recommendations made by the working groups as well as consider how to advance initiatives, particularly those that crosscut the three APEC Committees," she said.

The committees include the Committee on Trade and Investment, the Economic Committee, and the Senior Committee on Economic and Technical Cooperation. Endi
