Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall St. gains

Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher early Friday, following overnight gains on Wall Street as crude oil prices rallied.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 176.33 points, or 1.01 percent, from Thursday to 17,680.95.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 11.17 points, or 0.79 percent, at 1,421. 28.
