Jordan airstrikes IS bases in revenge for pilot killing

Jordanian fighter jets targeted several holes and hideouts for the Islamic State (IS) in Syria, the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) said in a statement Thursday.

Tens of fighter jets of the Royal Jordanian Air Force took part in the operation during which they destroyed weapon and ammunition warehouses and training centers for IS.

The army called the operation "Martyr Muath," saying it is in revenge of the killing of the Jordanian pilot Muath Kasasbeh who was burnt by the IS alive early this week after being captured in December of last year when his plane crashed in Syria.

The Jordanian army said all fighter jets returned home safe and more operations will follow.

Jordan is part of a U.S.-led international coalition fighting IS. Endit
