Cambodia-Thailand trade hits 5 bln USD last year

Xinhua, February 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Trade volume between Cambodia and its neighboring Thailand topped 5 billion U.S. dollars in 2014, an 11 percent increase from last year's 4.5 billion U.S. dollars, a Cambodian commerce official said Thursday.

Last year, Cambodia exported to Thailand in the value of 571 million U.S. dollars, while the country imported from Thailand 4. 43 billion U.S. dollars' worth of goods , Commerce Secretary of State Chhuon Dara said during the opening ceremony of the 2015 Thailand Trade Fair here.

"Despite the annual increase in bilateral trade, Cambodia's export to Thailand remains low," he said, appealing to Thai business people to invest more in Cambodia.

Cambodia sells agricultural products, used garments, recyclable metal, and fish to Thailand as it buys back vehicles, petroleum, processed goods, construction material, fruit, and vegetable.

Thai Ambassador to Cambodia Nuttavudh Photisaro said the 4-day trade fair, held at the Diamond Island Exhibition Center, was aimed to further promote trade relations between the two neighbors.

"This fair is to promote products from Thai factories to Cambodian consumers," he said, adding that some 250 Thai companies are displaying their products at the trade fair. Endi
