U.S. official calls on Vietnam to further promote search for war missing personnel

Xinhua, February 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ann Mills Griffiths, president of the U.S. National League of POW-MIA Families, said here on Thursday that her country wished to further promote ties with Vietnam in search for U.S. war missing personnel.

Griffiths made the remark while meeting with Nguyen Chi Vinh, Vietnamese deputy defense minister, in capital Hanoi on Thursday.

Vinh, for his part, said at the meeting that over the past years, Vietnam and the United States have worked closely together in the search for U.S. military personnel taken as prisoners of war (POWs) or listed as missing in action (MIA).

Search efforts have contributed to promoting friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the United States, said Vinh, adding that Vietnam has been actively proposing measures and coordinating with the U.S. side in exploring new implementation method to increase search efficiency.

So far, the two countries' working teams have managed to complete joint-action missions, which help repatriate hundreds of remains of U.S. soldiers, Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA quoted Vinh as saying on Thursday. Endi
