Zambia's first President Kenneth Kaunda has been diagnosed with flu and there was no need for people to panic over his hospitalization, his office said on Thursday.
The 90-year-old former Zambian leader was hospitalized on Tuesday at a local hospital and has remained in hospital since then.
But his special assistant Sunday Musonda told the Times of Zambia that the former president was hospitalized for flu and a routine medical checkup.
He said the doctors would soon advise when the former freedom fighter would be discharged from hospital.
Kaunda, fondly called KK, fought for Zambia's independence until the country was liberated from British rule in 1964. He is also known for the liberation struggle in the southern African nation.
He ruled Zambia from 1964 to 1991. He is currently involved in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic through his Kenneth Kaunda Children of Africa Foundation. Endi
