Tokyo stocks down 0.98 pct on Greece concerns, crude oil falls

Tokyo stocks fell 0.98 percent on Thursday after the European Central Bank tightened liquidity for Greek banks and crude oil prices' decline.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 174.12 points from Wednesday at 17,504.62.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 6.89 points, or 0.49 percent, lower at 1,410.11.

Decliners were led by mining, textile and machinery issues.

The turnover was 2,851.5 billion yen (about 24.31 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
