Indonesia's gross domestic products (GDP) grew by 5.01 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014, compared with the previous quarter's 4.92 percent, as investment and government spending picked up, the national statistics bureau said on Thursday.

The fast growth was seen as a good start to achieve more than 7 percent GDP growth within two years, a target set by Indonesian President Joko Widodo who took office on October 20 last year.

Suryamin, head of the statistics agency, said the nation's GDP growth rate was 5.02 percent for the whole of 2014, the lowest in five years.

Using 2010 as the base year, Indonesia's economic grew by 5.58 percent in 2013.

President Widodo has vowed to build roads, ports, railways, and education and health facilities as part of the effort to accelerate economic growth.

He said he would work for an economic growth of 5.7 percent in 2015. Endi
