EU mulls 8.7 mln euros funding for redundant media workers in Greece

Xinhua, February 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

The European Commission proposed mobilizing 8.7 million euros (9.9 million U.S. dollars) from the European Globalization Adjustment Fund (EGF) to help redundant workers in the media sectors in Attica, Greece, said the European Commission on Tuesday.

The funds would be used to help 1,633 workers from publishing, programming and broadcasting enterprises in their transition to new jobs.

"Greek workers are going through a difficult period and we must use all the tools we have at our disposal to provide assistance," said Marianne Thyssen, EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labor Mobility.

The proposals will now go to the European Parliament and the EU Council of Ministers for approval. Endit
