Bomb on bus in eastern Bangladesh kills 7, injures 16

Xinhua, February 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least seven passengers were burnt to death and 16 others were either injured or burnt early on Tuesday as miscreants hurled a bomb at a bus in Bangladesh's eastern Comilla district during opposition alliance enforced countrywide non-stop blockade, said a local police officer.

"Miscreants hurled the petrol bomb at a Dhaka-bound bus from key tourist destination Cox's Bazaar when it reached Comilla district at around 3:30 a.m. (local time), leaving seven passengers dead on the spot and 16 others injured, " said the police officer who preferred to be unnamed.

He said 11 of the injured have been rushed to the Burn Unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in capital Dhaka.

Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's opposition alliance has been observing the nonstop blockade across the country since Jan. 5, demanding fresh elections under a non-party caretaker government system.

The fresh wave of violence has resulted in death of scores of people and injuries of hundreds as the anti-government protesters battled with law enforcers, attacked rivals, torched vehicles and targeted railway since the morning of Jan. 6.

On Jan. 6, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's opposition alliance staged the nationwide non-stop rail-road- waterway blockade that entered 29th day on Tuesday. Endi
