Tokyo stocks open higher as crude oil rises

Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher Tuesday following overnight gains on Wall Street as crude oil futures continued to rise.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 43.44 points, or 0.25 percent, from Monday to 17,601.48.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 2.84 points, or 0.20 percent, to 1,411. 59.

Major gainers included mining, energy and machinery issues. Endi
