Car explodes in Malmo city center in Sweden

Xinhua, February 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

A powerful explosion shook parts of Malmo in Sweden when a car blew up outside the city's Museum of Modern art on Sunday night.

"There are car parts up to 10 meters away from the car. It must have been a very powerful shockwave," an eye witness told news agency TT on Monday.

According to local police, there is no proof that the explosion is connected to a fatal shooting incident that took place by a Malmo shopping center on Saturday night. The victim in that incident is thought to have been a key figure in a long-running dispute between two criminal gangs.

According to local media, the woman who owns the car that exploded on Sunday night is not under threat.

Nobody was hurt, but several windows of the art museum broke by the shock force and a second car was also dented in the explosion.

Malmo, Sweden's third largest city, has seen a string of violent crimes recently. Police believe a majority of incidents are linked to conflicts between criminal networks. Endit
