4 police killed in west Afghanistan

Xinhua, February 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Four police were killed and three others injured as anti-government militants, presumably Taliban fighters, stormed a police checkpoint in Herat province, head of Herat provincial council Kamran Alizai said here Monday. "A police constable apparently affiliated with the Taliban outfit had guided a number of insurgents last night to attack a checkpoint in Wardaka village of Chasht district during which four police were killed and three others injured," Alizai told Xinhua.

Meanwhile, police chief of Chasht district Ghulam Rasould in talks with Xinhua confirmed the incident, saying that a police constable from the checkpoint had also escaped with the militants after the bloody offensive on the police checkpoint.

Taliban-led conflicts have intensified since NATO-led forces ended the combat mission on Dec. 31, 2014 and Afghan national security forces assumed security responsibility of Afghanistan from Jan. 1 this year. Endi
