Floods likely kill 5 in Bulgaria: official

Xinhua, February 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Five people have probably died as a result of the heavy rains in Bulgaria on Sunday, the country's Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev told BTV television.

The dead bodies of a 45-year-old man and his nine-year-old son were found in the river in the village of Ilindentsi in southwestern Bulgaria.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old woman disappeared in the river in the nearby town of Petrich, while walking her dog.

Later on, a car with a two-member family on board fell into the river in the town of Devin in the Rhodope Mountains, some 200 km southeast of the Bulgarian capital Sofia. Their bodies have not yet been found, Krasimir Shotarov, head of the regional Fire Safety and Protection of Population Directorate, said as quoted by Focus News Agency.

Last year, floods caused by heavy rains killed seven people in southeastern Bulgaria in April and September, and downpour killed 12 people in the Black Sea Port of Varna in June. Endit
