The Syrian Foreign Ministry on Sunday strongly condemned the beheading of the Japanese hostages by the Islamic State (IS) militant group, according to the state news agency SANA.
Syria condemns in a statement the slaughtering of Japanese citizens Kenji Goto and Haruna Yukawa, who had been beheaded by the IS recently over Japan and Jordan's failure to secure the release of Sajida al-Rishawi.
The IS demanded the release of al-Rishawi in exchange of the lives of Goto and a captured Jordanian pilot.
"This vicious crime reflects the danger of terrorism on all world countries and people, and reflects the need to halt the support some well-known countries are rendering to the terrorist groups by arming, funding and training them," the ministry said.
The ministry extended its condolences to the families of the victims.
A day earlier, the IS posted an online video footage, purporting to show the beheading of Goto, just a week after the terror-designated group beheaded Yukawa. Endit
