Sudanese rebels release six Bulgarian aid workers

Xinhua, February 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sudanese rebels said on Sunday that they have released 6 Bulgarian aid workers with the UN World Food Programme (WFP), who were held in January.

The workers have been handed this morning to the UN base at Idaz camp in Unity State in South Sudan, Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Xinhua.

The release of the workers came for humanitarian purposes, the statement added.

It called on all "peace loving-forces" in the world to work to stop the government air force's bombardment of civilians and support the demands of the Sudanese people for peace.

The WFP workers were taken into custody by the rebels on Jan. 26, when their helicopter made an emergency landing in South Kordofan. Endit
