11 killed in road accident in W. India

Xinhua, February 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 11 persons were killed and 14 others injured Sunday when a bus slammed into a truck on a highway in the western Indian state of Rajasthan, said police.

The accident took place in Jodhpur district of the state when some villagers were returning home after participating in a local election polling for villager chiefs.

Police said the death toll could rise as several of the injured were fighting for their life in hospital.

Traffic accidents are common in India. Reckless driving, bad road conditions and lack of security surveillance are among the reasons for deadly accidents in the country, which kill at least 100,000 each year.

Last December, dozens of people were killed when a truck rammed into a gas tank near the state capital city of Jaipur in Rajasthan. Endi
