Tourist visits to Malta in Dec. show y-on-y increase

Tourists made 66,232 trips to Malta in December 2014, showing a year-on-year increase of 1.4 percent, according to figures released by Malta's National Statistics Office.

Of those trips, a total of 53,136 inbound visits were for holidays, while 8,176 were for business purposes.

Inbound tourists from the European Union states went up by 7.7 percent to 55,512. The largest proportion of inbound tourists aged between 45 and 64, followed by those in the age bracket between 25 to 44.

Tourists spent an estimated 51.7 million euros (58.4 million U.S. Dollar), registering a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent.

Total tourism expenditure was estimated at 1.5 billion euros, 6.1 percent higher than that recorded for the same period in 2013. (1 euro = 1.13 U.S. dollars) Endit
