Saudi Arabia reports 2 new MERS cases

Xinhua, January 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two new Middle East Respiratory Syndrome(MERS) coronavirus cases were reported in Saudi Arabia in the last 24 hours, Saudi Health Ministry said on Friday.

The new cases were reported in Riyadh and Hafof that brought the total cases up to 845 since the first case in 2012. There are six cases receiving treatment, while 475 recovered and 364 died.

The ministry announced last week the appointment of U.S. experts to halt the spread of infectious and noncommunicable diseases, including MERS coronavirus.

The experts hail from the Atlanta-based Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States.

The decision forms part of a recently signed agreement between the ministry's command and control center and the CDC and includes training and support for Saudi professionals under the Field Epidemiology Training Program. Enditem
