2 soldiers wounded in Abu Sayyaf ambush in S. Philippines

Two soldiers were injured on Friday afternoon in an ambush launched by Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in south Philippine province of Sulu, said military officials.
The ambush happened at 1:30 p.m. local time at Patikul town, when ASG sprayed bullets to troops of the 35th infantry battalion in a convoy of vehicles, according to Harold Cabunoc, public affairs office chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
The injured soldiers are now in stable condition after being treated in a local hospital.
Alan Arrojado, commander of Joint Task Group Sulu has directed pursuit operations against the perpetrators.
The 400-strong Abu Sayyaf Group, founded in the early 1990s by Islamic extremists, is a violent Muslim terrorist group operating in the southern Philippines. The ASG is notorious for a series of kidnappings, bombings and even beheadings in southern Philippines over the past decades. Endi
