Iraq led 2-1 over the United Arab Emirates in the AFC Asian Cup 3rd/4th match here on Friday.

Omar Abdulrahman started the play in the 12th minute to help Mabkhout broke free down the right and his cross was volleyed over first time by the dangerous Ahmed Khalil.

The first goal came in the 16th minute and Khalil nailed the ball into the net by a briliant killing pass from Abdulrahman after they cooperate to produce a well organized counterattack.

Five minutes later, Iraq almost equalized the game, but first the crossbar and then UAE goalkeeper Khalid Eisa denied Younis Mahmood's two shots.

Iraq looked quite dominate with possession and their hard work got paied off in the 28th minute as Waleed Salim cut in from the right and lashed a shot home to tie the game 1-1.

Amjed Kalaf helped Iraq took the lead 2-1 in the 43rd minute after Ahmed Yaseen's powerful shot could only be parried by the UAE goalkeeper.

This is both Iraq's (1976) and the UAE's (1992) second appearances in a third place play-off at the AFC Asian Cup. Neither nation won their previous play-off match.
