Indonesian president to visit Malaysia, Brunei, Philippines

Indonesian President Joko Widodo will visit three ASEAN countries of Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines on Feb. 5 to 9 to step up economic cooperation, an senior official said on Friday.
President Jokowi, as he is popularly known, was scheduled to hold meetings with heads of states and prime ministers of the countries, said Deputy Foreign Minister A.M. Fachtir.
During the meetings, he said, the leaders would discuss how to bring the economic and trade cooperation at the higher level.
"These are state visits. And the goals are to boost economic cooperation," he said.
President Jokowi, who took office on Oct. 20, has pledged to give priority to economic diplomacy in his tenure.
The country had attracted 78.7 trillion rupiah (about 6.297 billion U.S. dollars) foreign direct investment from October to December, up 10 percent on the yearly basis, Chairman of Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board Franky Sibarani said.
The Indonesian president has also promised in his campaign to boost investment climate, and accelerate the country's economic growth to 5.6 to 5.8 percent this year and 7 percent within 3 years. Endi
