Teenager arrested over Beijing department store fire

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson, over a fire that started on Thursday at a department store warehouse in downtown Beijing, which was still raging on Friday, police said on Friday.

No casualties have been reported.

The suspect is from Hebei Province, according to the Beijing Public Security Bureau.

It is alleged that the boy set fire to stacks of clothes in a warehouse on the 7th and 8th floor of Bairong Shimao Department Store.

The police have not released any details of the possible motive.

Over 230 fire fighters are still trying to manage the fire.

Fire fighters at the scene said that toxic gas was hindering efforts to quell the flames. Endi
