Jordan condemns Sinai attacks

Xinhua, January 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Jordan condemned the terrorist bombings that claimed at least 26 lives and injured dozens in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, the state-run Petra news agency reported on Friday.

Jordan's Minister of State of Media Affairs and Communications Mohammed Momani stressed Jordan's support to Egypt in all circumstances and to its efforts to fight terrorism that targets the security and safety of its people and army.

The minister also expressed Jordan's condolences to the Egyptian government and families of the victims and wished the injured speedy recovery.

A series of deadly attacks targeting the security forces occured in Egypt's restive Sinai peninsula on Thursday, which left at least 26 security men dead and dozens wounded.

Reports said several tweets from a Twitter account named Sinai Province claimed responsibility for those attacks.

Last year, Egypt's most active militant group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis changed its name to Sinai Province after swearing allegiance to the Islamic State militant group. Endit
