Japan's jobless rate in December eased 0.1 percentage point from the previous month to 3.4 percent, government data showed Friday.

The number of unemployed people has dropped to 2.28 million, down 0.4 percent from November, and that of people holding jobs increased 0.7 percent to 63.88 million, the internal affairs ministry said.

The jobless data, which marks the lowest level since August 1997, suggesting that companies are willing to hire more workers as corporate profits recover, said the ministry.

Meanwhile, The ratio of employment offers to seekers climbed for the third straight month to 1.15, the highest level since March 1992, up from 1.12 in November, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said. That means 115 positions were available for every 100 job seekers. Endi
