New Zealand to discuss cooperation with Britain at UN

Xinhua, January 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

New Zealand will be looking to strengthen cooperation with Britain in international affairs, during a visit by British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, Foreign Minister Murray McCully said Friday.

"New Zealand and the UK have an excellent relationship, underscored by strong political, defence and trade links," McCully said in a statement.

"New Zealand has recently commenced a two-year term as a non- permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and my talks with Foreign Secretary Hammond will also focus on areas where we can work constructively with the UK at the UN."

McCully said he and Hammond, who will be in New Zealand from Feb. 2 to 4, would also discuss events to mark the centenary of the First World War.

Britain was New Zealand's fifth largest trading partner, and a key market for New Zealand lamb, fruit and wine, he said. Endi
