Half million unemployed Austrians found work again in 2014

Xinhua, January 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

A total of 519,026 unemployed Austrians found job in 2014 despite overall rising unemployment figures, the Public Employment Service Austria (AMS) stated in a press release Thursday.

The figures mark a slight 0.5 percent or 2,734 persons decline from 2013, though in the states of Vienna, Salzburg, and Tyrol, the numbers saw an increase.

AMS head Johannes Kopf said 69 percent of the unemployed found a new job within three months, while for 23 percent the job search process took three to six months, and for 7 percent up to one year.

Forty-five per cent of the total number were 45 years of age or older, something Kopf said "refutes the notion that older people in general have no more chances in the labour market."

An increased number of job seekers with an academic and higher education found work, increasing 9.5 percent and 4.6 percent over 2013 respectively, while employment for those who had only completed compulsory education declined a further 2.4 per cent. Endit
