Xinhua, January 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

The number of influenza patients has reached the alarming level as some 300 medical institutes across Osaka Prefecture, western Japan, reported more than 8,640 influenza cases last week, up by 4 percent from the previous week, local media reported on Thursday.

In some parts of the prefecture, such as the northern part and western part of the Osaka city, the average number of flu patients per institute reached the alert level of 30, signifying a possible outbreak of the epidemic.

Most of the patients were elderly people.

In the past two months, eight elderly people in Osaka Prefecture died from influenza, which has been spreading across Japan since last autumn. Endi
