Rockets rally past Mavericks to 3rd straight win

Xinhua, January 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Houston Rockets rallied past their in-state rival the Dallas Mavericks 99-94 Wednesday night at Toyota center to continue their winning streak.

The visiting Mavericks started the game with a 10-2 run and had a short-lived double-digit lead in the first quarter. The Rockets responded with a spurt of 11-2, trailing 24-25 at the end.

The two teams had a tight second quarter also and neither was able to establish a noticeable lead. Houston led 54-53 by halftime.

The Rockets managed to maintain their small advantage in the third quarter, leading 81-78 entering the final period.

Dallas had their share of chances when they were down by three points with 15.9 seconds left. But Tyson Chandler missed both free throws after a flagrant foul call. Seconds later, Houston had their turn of free throws and James Harden scored both to secure their win.

Josh Smith led the Rockets in scoring with 18 points, and James Harden notched 17. Terrence Jones returned to the court for the first time since way back on Nov. 3 and scored 10 points. Dwight Howard was out with a sprained ankle.

Monta Ellis scored 33 points for the Mavericks while Chandler Parsons had 21 points. They have lost four consecutive games. Endi
