S. Africa police launches manhunt for killers of white family

Xinhua, January 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Police in South Africa launched a manhunt Wednesday for unidentified attackers who killed three members of a rich white family near Cape Town.

In the attack that occurred on Tuesday in a golf estate in Stellenbosch town, east of Cape Town, three members of the white family were murdered while two others injured, police said.

The motive for the killing and the identity of the attackers remained unknown, Police Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana said.

Local reports identified the victims as businessman Martin van Breda, 54, his wife Teresa, 55, and their 22-year-old son Rudi.

Their daughter Marli, 16, is in a critical condition in hospital and son Henri, 20, was slightly injured.

The murderers were suspected to have used axes in the attack as Emergency Medical Services personnel found an axe wound in the head of Marli.

Stellenbosch, a scenic town mostly inhabited by whites, has seen rising crime in the recent years, local reports said. Endi
