A total of 36 people were killed in attacks and clashes with the Islamic State (IS) militants in Iraq's eastern province of Diyala on Wednesday, security sources said.

Heavy clashes erupted when Iraqi security forces and Shiite militias attacked IS militants hiding in Himreen mountainous area in northeast of Baquba, Diyala's provincial capital, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, leaving at least 20 IS militants killed, Lieutenant General Jamil al-Shimary, the provincial police chief, told Xinhua. ISLAMABAD -- At least seven people were killed and three others injured on Wednesday evening when a U.S. drone launched a strike in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region of North Waziristan, local media reported.

According to the reports, the U.S. pilot-less plane fired two missiles at a house in the Shawal area of the restive tribal region bordering Afghanistan. (Pakistan-U.S.-Drone attacks)

MOSCOW -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has confirmed that its top leader Kim Jong Un would come to Moscow in May for celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany, the Kremlin said Wednesday.

"The North Korean leader's participation has been confirmed, and we are getting ready for his arrival," the Interfax news agency quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying. (Kim Jong Un-Russia-Visit)

ATHENS -- The new Greek government is ready to restore the debt-laden country's prestige, people's dignity and social justice, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras told the first Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

YANGON -- The Myanmar government delegation and the protesting students on Wednesday issued a joint statement, agreeing to hold a quartet talks on amending the parliament- approved National Education Law, official sources confirmed.

BANGKOK -- Thailand's Criminal Court on Wednesday handed down a two-year jail sentence to Jatuporn Prompan, a former Pheu Thai MP and leader of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, or"red shirts,"for defamation.

The case was filed by former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, who accused Jatuporn of making defamatory remarks about him in two public speeches in October 2009. (Thailand-Red Shirt-Jail Sentence)

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian Deputy Transport Minister Aziz Kaprawi said here Wednesday that the interim report on the investigation on the MH370 incident will be released on March 7.
