Mainz sign Club Brugge's Castillo on loan

Xinhua, January 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Mainz signed Club Brugge striker Nicolas Castillo on loan until the end of the season, the Bundesliga club announced on Wednesday.

The Chilean international will join Mainz with immediate effect until the end of the season. However, the Bundesliga side has an option to make the transfer permanent after the loan deal.

"We have searched for an additional option on the striker position. We are pleased that we have found with Nicolas Castillo the best possible option. He already proved that he is a threat for any defence," Mainz manager Christian Heidel said.

The 21-year-old striker joined from Belgian side Club Brugge where he played since January 2014 to score ten goals in 23 appearances. He made his international debut for Chile in March 2013.

"Mainz and the Bundesliga are the next step in my development. I am a player who always fight for his team therefore I am looking forward to get to know my new teammate and the club," the Chilean new arrival said.

Mainz sit on 12th position of the Bundesliga standings. They face newly promoted Paderborn for their restart of the season. Endi
