American Airlines reports record profit in 2014

Xinhua, January 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

The world's largest air carrier, American Airlines Group (AAG), on Tuesday reported that it earned 1.1 billion U.S. dollars in the fourth quarter and 4.2 billion dollars in 2014 -- the best quarterly and annual performance in its history.

The fourth quarter and the full-year profit grew respectively by 153 percent and 115 percent year on year, AAG said in a press release, adding that it looks to 2015 as another outstanding year for the company's performance.

"This is the best year in the long, proud history of American Airlines," said Doug Parker, chief executive of the Texas-based airline, in a conference call with industry analysts and reporters.

"We are extremely pleased to be reporting results like this just one year into our merger," Parker said.

In 2013, American Airlines Inc. and U.S. Airways Inc. merged into AAG and they together formed the largest airline in the world.

Analysts said the airline's huge profit growth is much due to strong riding demand and plunging fuel costs. Endi
