SK Hynix, the world's second-largest memory chipmaker following Samsung Electronics, posted a 46 percent surge in net profit in 2014, breaking records for two straight years, a regulatory filing showed Wednesday.
The company's revenue was 17.13 trillion won (about 15.8 billion U.S. dollars) in 2014, up 20.9 percent from a year ago and the largest in its history.
Operating profit jumped 51.2 percent from the 2013 level to reach a record high of 5.1 trillion won in 2014, and operating margin registered 29.8 percent.
The company's net income posted a record 4.19 trillion won last year, up 46 percent from a year before.
The chipmaker breached its previous record earnings due to strong demand for chips used for mobile devices and higher product prices.
For the fourth quarter of 2014, the company logged quarterly highs of 5.15 trillion won in revenue, 1.67 trillion won in operating profit and 1.62 trillion won in net profit.
The fourth-quarter revenue was up 52.9 percent from a year earlier, with the operating profit more than doubling compared with the same period of 2013. Endi
