Bandits armed with kalashnikovs attempt robbery in northern Italy

Xinhua, January 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 10 bandits armed with kalashnikovs attempted to rob a vault belonging to a security firm in northern Italy, ANSA news agency said on Tuesday.

The bandits, who acted overnight, also used a bulldozer for their failed attack, which took place in the town of Quinto Vercellese, in the Piedmont region.

"We heard screams and gunshots ... many citizens were waken up in the middle of the night and wondered what was going on," Vice Mayor of Quinto Vercellese, Alessandra Ticozzi, was quoted by ANSA as saying.

The bandits were attempting to reach the vault through an outer wall, when a watchman sounded the alarm.

"I looked out of the window and saw some members of the gang. After a few seconds, they ran away in a big car," a witness said. Endit
