Xinhua, January 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nine Italian soldiers were injured when a Greek F16 crashed into an airbase in Spain during a NATO pilot training exercise killing 10 people on Monday, Italian media said.

Two of the nine injured were hospitalized, according to sources of the Italian defense ministry quoted by la Repubblica newspaper.

The two were burnt in many parts of the body, while the others had abrasions, according to ANSA news agency.

The injured soldiers were working on the ground near several aircraft which were about to take off, including a few Italian ones, when the crash occurred, ANSA said.

The accident happened at the Las Lanos base in Albacete, in eastern Spain, during the take-off stage at the NATO base used for training of soldiers from various countries.

Local reports said Italian Defense Minister Roberta Pinotti will travel to the spot on Tuesday along with other authorities to visit the injured soldiers. Endit
