Jordan calls for joint efforts in combating terrorism

Jordan's King Abdullah II on Monday called for joint efforts in combating terrorism and extremism, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

At a meeting with the chairman of the Arab and International Relations Council Jasim Saqer, the King said Arabs and Muslims should cooperate in combating terrorism, and it must be top priority at this stage.

The king said that religious institutions play a leading role in raising awareness with regards to combating terrorism and interpreting the essence of Islam.

Regarding the peace process, he said Jordan will maintain efforts to reach Mideast peace and achieve truce between Palestinians and Israelis.

On the topics of Syria and Iraq, the king called for a political solution to consolidate the countries and end the instability.

The council chairman voiced appreciation of Jordan's efforts in securing Mideast peace. Endit
