2 militants killed in Afghanistan within day: official

Xinhua, January 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two militants have been killed and 11 others detained since early Sunday, Afghan Defense Ministry spokesman said on Monday.

"Over the past 24 hours, two militants were killed and 11 others were detained during army operations in three provinces," General Zahir Azimi said in his twitter account.

The army specialists defused 15 roadside bombs and landmines within the same period, he added.

Two army soldiers also died as a result of landmine explosions, the official confirmed.

Afghan security forces have pressed on clearing the militants in restive provinces as they assumed earlier this month the full security charges from NATO-led troops after a four-year security transition ending on Dec. 31 last year.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comments. Endi
